I'm reluctantly posting my rant about the football season because it has been so enjoyable, but now that the Irish are most likely going to be getting a BCS bid I will come out of the woods on this. I've gotten in multiple discussions with people on whether or not the Irish deserve a BCS bid over Oregon or Ohio State, even Auburn and Virginia Tech. There are many underlying issues that people seem to miss with their blind hatred of Notre Dame. The biggest opponent this year seems to be the ND schedule. The team that was projected to go 7-4 at best, 4-7 at the worst, has pulled what would have been unbelievable at season's beginning. To go 9-2 and be two plays from being undefeated is a good season nonetheless; but ND haters seem to miss the point that EVERYONE hates them. This includes incoming football players. It is a rivalry game every week for the Irish, so not only did they play against preseason 1, 3, 4, 15, and 25 but they also play the equivalent of Michigan's Ohio State, Texas's Oklahoma, Florida State's Miami, Army's Navy, USC's well...Notre Dame. To call the Irish a soft team would be declaring that a team that beat up on every team that came across their path was attempting to be someone else. Give Leinart and Bush or Stanton and Trannon a call and ask them if Notre Dame is soft this year. Better yet, ask USC who they'd rather play again...ND or Oregon. Let me give you a hint, it's not the team with Hi-Liter jerseys. It's probably the team that gave the country the best game this year, and definitely one of the top games this century.
So do me a favor, all of you proponents for ND playing in a non-BCS game, did you win your division? If so, congrats, you did what you are required to do to play in a BCS game. If you did not, then pull up your skirt and realize you fell short where you shouldn't have. Quit playing San Diego State and Miami of Ohio and D1-AA Montana and Houston and try starting off with Pittsburgh and Michigan on the ROAD. We'll see you all on the road to the championship next year.
BTW, if you think you hate Notre Dame, try stepping up to the plate of Keith Jackson. I love this guy when he does any game besides Notre Dame. Even Bob Davie is more impartial than Old Man River is when it comes to the Irish.
